Plenty of gig footage from the girls
The band’s comic relief cover got the set started and the crowd were fairly excited for the headline act. It’s not as though the crowd were all fans of The Saturdays, headlining a charity night means its going to be an eclectic crowd but the enthusiasm and pep of the girls went a long way to winning people over.
Big teeth and smiles alongside big songs is the way to win over any mixed crowd and whatever you think about The Sats, their smiles on stage are beyond reproach. The girls were looking stylish in their white tops and coloured skirts, with the act perhaps introducing a bit more focus to their earlier use of colours.
This is not something that is going to make or break a band but it’s a little touch that can make it easier for fans to connect with a group. Songs like ‘One Shot’, ‘Forever Is Over’ and ‘Issues’, all of which featured in the band’s set, are tracks of a reasonable quality and all gathered a good response from the audience.
Just as the band were preparing to launch into new song ‘Higher’, which if you haven’t seen yet, you can view here, Una let slip about the forthcoming mini-album, which is due in August.
It’s all set to be released the week after the single ‘Missing You’ is released and early internet rumours suggest the mini-album may be called ‘Headlines’. We’ve not seen anything confirming this yet so it could be way off the mark but until we hear something for definite, we are not going to overly worry about it!
The Saturdays didn’t hit the stage until after 10pm and when you think of their young fan base that is pretty late in the evening. Friday 25th of June is the last day of the Scottish term for kids so some may have been able to skip school in the morning but it’s asking a lot for children and parents to hang around so late in the evening.
That said, the girls showed no signs of tiredness and gave a performance full of spirit and vigour. Yes, there are still some moments where the signing is off-key and the dancing isn’t exactly taxing but some of the criticism labelled at The Saturdays is over the line. Heyho, it’s all a matter of personal taste though isn’t it?
With a new min-album coming soon, there doesn’t appear to be any let-up in work for The Saturdays…good stuff!
